Ravine and Slimy

Took a walk through my latest Ravine Salamander spot hoping to find more but didn’t have any luck. About 1/4 mile away I desided to try another little place.

The 1st log I flipped was a nice BIG Slimy Salamander.

Then flipped the log beside this one and BAM another Ravine.  This makes me feel good about this area and thinking how many could be between the 1st spot and 2nd spot.

Ravine Salamanders part 2

Oct. 20

2 Ravine Salamanders
2 American Toads
1 Dusky Salamander Temps 60 F
Cloudy/Sunny

I thought I would go to my new Ravine Salamander spot to see if I could find more.
I came across the one from last weekend and another.

First: Under Log

Second: Under Rock

Habitat:

I’m quite sad that the 1st one was injured after I went back though to see the log had pushed down on the peice of bark that I layed him under (next to the log). I hope that he makes it . Seemed to be a bit more active when I went and checked back on him later in the day. Going to check in the morning to see how he is. I was quite sad by that happening.

Ravine Salamander — SW PA

After a few hrs of hiking around new areas in an old spot I found a little creek running through the woods . Only found one dusky so I headed up an ATV trail and found a nice little log to flip. At 1st I was like aww a leadphased redback.. but then i grabbed it an saw what it was. My heart leaped with joy.

Only thing else I seen in the area. But will be back.

Let me tell you they are a PAIN to photograph. They don’t stay still one min. so it took a while to get some OK shots. Maybe will find more next weekend for more shots.

 20 N. Dusky Salamanders

Thing are starting to slow down around SW PA.  Went out to the creek a few times and once today with my daughter but nothing crawling about.

Went out to a stream I have frequented before and found a few N. Dusky
Salamanders of diffrent color variations.
